An examination of the major theoretical explanations and practices in education. Topics include an analysis of the various social processes that have been developed to define and transmit knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and power relations from one generation to the next. The role of state-sponsored formal education systems in the context of world economic systems will be explored. Prereq: SOC 101 or 120R; Level at least 3A
