An examination of the nature and causes of episodes of mass violence inspired by apocalyptic beliefs. The course will use historical and contemporary case studies and theoretical discussions of the social and psychological factors precipitating violence. [Note: This course fulfills an Area 3C requirement for Religious Studies majors.] Prereq: RS 221/280 taken prior to Fall 2008 or SOC 262(Cross-listed with SOC 258)
