This course assesses the transformation of the British Empire from its position of comparative strength in the mid-nineteenth century to de-colonization and the emergence of the Commonwealth after the Second World War. Topics of study include systems of power and control, the impact of Empire at home, and the manner in which imperialism influenced colonial subjects. Prereq: Level at least 2A
