Basic environmental microbiology and biology with a focus on understanding the principles governing microbial growth and activity and the function of natural, perturbed and engineered systems. Topics include basic microbial functions, microbial population growth and limiting factors, microbial community structure, and the interactions between microbes and their chemical environment.
