This course is a basic introduction to the important physical and chemical processes that occur in the terrestrial atmosphere. The course includes physical aspects of the atmosphere, such as the altitude dependence of temperature and pressure; radiative transfer; physics of weather; the greenhouse effect and basic climate science. It also introduces the atmospheric chemistry responsible for acid rain, photochemical smog and ozone depletion. [Note: A first year course in calculus, physics and chemistry are recommended.
